Participant of the 3DModels.org One Car Challenge 2025

Image
As a 3D artist, I am interested in challenges.  This year I have decided to enter contests as a prompt challenge to my skills.  I am entering in the One Car Challenge this year on 3DModels.org.  I will be posting my updates here as I make them.  I look forward to the challenge and to see what I can make of this contest.  The industry is full of amazing artists so this is going to really push me to up my 3D game as much as possible just to make it into the pool of talented artists out there.   I'll keep you posted as I build out the concept.  We have until September to complete the piece.  In my spare time I hope to push this as far as I can.   This was the last car I modeled just to showcase that vehicles are not out of my reach.    You can click here to see the contest.   https://3dmodels.org/one-car-c hallenge/   I would also check out the previous years winners, there is some insane art to check out...

Skater Painting Demo for Instagram

Image
Here is another video of a layering process of one of my digital paintings.  This was intended for Instagram so it was not necessarily made for the instructional component. Pass it along if you like this and to hype the coming big finale to this illustration.

Process video of an illustration element

Here is a quick video showing the layers and the build up process for an element in one of my upcoming projects.

anatomy study

The latest drop doing an anatomy study of the back muscles from a photo reference. Actually, it was an excuse to try the new phone camera.  :)

flexion part1

A new video on using the armature and how to think about the flexion of the limbs.

TFL animation

Image
This was a video I made in response to so many students in my anatomy classes not understanding the shape changing of the TFL muscle.  This shows in part how the muscle changes shape with varying degrees of movement in the leg.

Here is a quick little warm up using charcoal on newsprint.

Drawing in a waiting room

This was a fun little drawing I did at LensCrafters while I was waiting for Vanessa to get her eyes examined.

quick sketch motivations

Image
Here is a video I made regarding the art of quick sketch and some ways to set yourself up for a good session.  Motivation is the name of the game and I have several illustrated in this video.  The video is sped up so as not to bore you, and I apologize for the breathing of the camera.  When the video footage is sped up it is really obvious that I am wearing a chest camera. Thank you for watching.  Pass this on if you find this instruction useful. and thank you again.

Part 4 of the quick sketch series

Here is the last video of this series on quick sketch drawing done in an academic approach.

A new entry, woah!

Image
Hello, just adding a new entry here to the page for once.  This is also on Lemenaid but I figure since I am trying to resuscitate the blogs I would put this on both. I will bring up more entries here within the next few months as I link all my pages together and hopefully stay on top of the blogs in the near future.

A Way To Figure Invention From a Photo

Image
Hello, first post in a while and I wanted to make it a descent one to start with again.  Here is the photo that I am working with. This is a photo of Peter Hewitt.  I do not currently know who shot this photo but I will find out soon. So, what I want to do is take this photo and find a spot somewhere else next to impossible to take this image. I am going to put the camera under the board or behind it as if this was a clear tunnel. First thing to do is learn the original pose so we can proceed forward with more working confidence.  So study the image and do a drawing from its perspective, in this case I am using figure construction methods to help me determine the volume presented before me. Here is the drawing that I did a study of to start the process. Note that I have analyzed the volumes cylindrically and I have also found the camera angle from which the photo was taken. Next we will break down the image into what would be termed an orthographic view....

Okay, so here are the recipe pages for the color wheel we do in color theory class. I am still working out the purples, I have to double check my old notes to make certain they are totally correct via mixture, but none the less the colors are the correct colors. I just have to play with their intensities again to determine which side of the wheel they go on. The rest was shot by Karen Johnson in my classes down here in San Diego. Thank you Karen for the photos.

TAD art

Image
Here are a few new images I am posting to announce my participation with TAD. The Art Department.org Vanessa will be coming on board soon, I was asked to fill a class last moment. We are really excited and can't wait to start up with TAD. Oh, and it has been a while. I need to be a little more responsive to the web these days...no more hiding under rocks:)

Godzilla vs. Kincade

Image
This was for a show we did at Studio2ndstreet called Changes. The Idea was to remove an idea from our culture that a commercial vehicle built; Thomas Kinkade's cottages do not represent quality fine art. First, that quality fine art is nothing more than a Print, or more eloquently put, a Giclee, that has a few factory placed(stamped) wax and varnish made raised brush strokes. Second, your print is number 47,043 of 50,000.  Do you feel special with that fine uniue purchase that 50,000 others have?  And not to mention the plates, mugs, cheap posters, t-shirts and g-strings that have the same image printed on them, but yes, it was a one of a kind...moment! What better way to remove this notion than to bring another pop idol in to do his thing?  You can see the way he is charging up his fire pit deep within to exhale another poorly built psuedo-medieval cottage.  You can also tell in his posture he is bored because there will be no one coming to fight against ...

drapery class

Image
We teach a class that goes over procedures for drawing the figure clothed. This semester was a really productive semester and all the students improved considerably from the beginning to the last class, and it was awesome to see the rapid growth. These are demonstrations and quick sketches from that class.
